Allan Sekula is an artist well-known for his conceptual documentary photography of social and political subjects. He traces political, economic, and cultural changes brought on by globalization. His style is defined as critical realism, and his work became woll known through Fish Story (1989-95), a book that brings together a series of his writings and photographs. The book contains color photographs and text providing an in-depth exploration of the changes in the fishing industry and maritime sector brought on by globalization. The book gas an entry on the container port of Busan, making it all the more interesting for local museum goers. His work in the Biennale, Tsukiji(2001)shows the largest fish market in the world, located in Tokyo. The detailed scene of cleaning fish with a knife makes a particularly strong impression in this video. The artist\'s works remind one of the artistic tradition of Takiji Kobayashi, a leftist Japanese novelists active during the 1920s and 30s who straddled the line between modernism and socialist realism.
