The early works of the Istanbul-based artist, Inci Eviner were black-ink-on-paper drawings. Her motifs often appear to be stenciled as a surface and their forms thus as pictograms, resulting in a purely graphical style. The motifs moreover repeat themselves to form an "all-over" principle. The images are set in continuous serial formations to produce figurative patterns. In her complex video work "Voyage Pittoresque de Constantinople et des Rives du Bosphore" (2009),Inci Eviner goes over to setting her figures in motion using computer technology and combining them with the scenery of an old engraving from the 17th century showing a harem, so that elements of space and motion emerge and the line between reality and illusion blurs. The original graphic of the architecture becomes a stage of simultaneous events and the observer gets completely lost in a multi-fictional world.
