From the opening event on the 14^th of September, Various Arts Laboratory as a diverse form of a performance, the sea and art, the Sea Art Bus together with outdoor performances, the Arts Flea Market in which artists’ unique daily objects were exhibited and sold, to the Songdo Art Road as the contemporary art humanities academic programmes.

Along with the exhibited artworks ornamenting the entire beach, the visitors were enchanted by the Sea Art Festival 2013. I will report the spot of the Sea Art Festival events in detail.

First, the Opening Ceremony

On the 14^th of September, the Sea Art Festival 2013 started its journey with the prestigious opening event. Embarking with the announcement of the opening, the opening ceremony was consisted with the introduction of the artistic director of the Sea Art Festival 2013, the Award Ceremony of the International Competition and tape-cutting. All these are followed by the celebrating concert of the opening event! Jung Mina started the concert with her fusion Gayaguem (Korean harp) performance and then Bascussion, a brass band. Kang San Eh heated the space of the opening event with his powerful performance.

Second, Sea Art Bus

During the opening of the Sea Art Festival 2013, there was a unique bus driving all over the city, called as ‘Sea Art Bus’.

At every 6PM on Saturday, after having a concert at the center of the Busan station, the visitors could ride on the bus to Songdo beach on a ‘first come first served basis’. While on the bus, the performance was still on. Even imagining riding the Busan city in the evening with breeze feels very fresh and enjoyable.

Third, Arts Flea Market

Arts Flea Market was a customized market held on every weekend. Together with representative flea market organizations, Art Market ZONE and Art free market MODANAN, various types of daily objects made by artists and other small sellable art objects were exhibited and sold in the Arts Flea Market. Especially the daily objects by the artists, as being trivial but unique, were the most popular.

Fourth, Songdo Art Road

The Sea Art Road was a local academic programme of the Sea Art Festival 2013 designed by Busan local humanities organizations including Vium, Imago, Bacademia 100fish, LIFE DIY-TONG and Indigo Sowon. There have been many citizens participating in discussion and in the free humanities programme held in each space of the organizations. In addition, the Conversations with Artist were on every Sunday on the Songdo beach. The Songdo Art Road was filled with hugely diverse humanities topics in regards to contemporary art that could be learnt through the programmes and the Conversations with Artist.

Fifth, Various Arts Laboratory

The Various Arts Laboratory heated the Sea Art Festival 2013 on every weekend! The Various Arts Laboratory was an unusual concert held on the top of containers.

The diverse genres of Rock and Roll, Reggae, electronic sound, B-boying and so on were all brought together on every weekend along with the sound of the waves.

The Various Arts Laboratory will be remained as a mesmerizing memory of the featured artists as well as the audiences’.
