Olivier Kaeppelin, Visiting Busan for the Preparation of the Exhibition |
Artistic Director Olivier Kaeppelin will visit Busan once again in the midst of selecting the participating artists. At the press conferences held in Busan, Tokyo and Beijing in the past March and June, Kaeppelin announced few names of the artists who will be representing the exhibition. He will be visiting Busan, from July 14 through July 17, for a final checkup on the exhibition space and to plan the installation. Along with researching local artists, he will also finalize a list of approximately eighty artists to be included in the main exhibition of the Busan Biennale 2014.

Reorganization of the Operating Committee |
The Operating Committee of the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee underwent a reorganization last May. New committee members have been elected, which include Kye-Hoon Ha (art critic), Jin-Jae Yoo (professor at Busan Arts College), Young-Sub Jin (metal craftsman), Lee-Soo Kang (chairman of the Sculpture Department of the Busan Fine Arts Association), Jae-Hak Moon (professor at Shilla University) and Dong-Sik Hong (professor at Pukyong National University), who will maintain their terms through next year¡¯s May. Meanwhile, due to the resigning of Executive Director Kwang-Su Oh, the Busan Biennale 2014 will operate under Vice Executive Director Dal-Sul Kwon, who has been appointed as the acting executive director.

Establishment of the Institutional Improvement Committee |
The Institutional Improvement Committee has been assembled for establishing feasible reorganization and management plans. The external personnel of the committee include members such as Sang-Ho Seo (director of Openspace Bae), Moon-Ik Song (board member of the Korean People Artist Federation, Busan), Seung-Bo Jeon (artistic director of Sejong Center) and Mi-Kyung Choo (executive director of Daum Society), and the internal personnel include members such as Mi-Jin Kim (professor at Hongik University), Su-Yeon Oh(Chairman of Busan Fine Arts Association), Chul-Mo Yang(Honarary Professor of Busan National University of Education). The members have been selected by a provisional board of directors. From now on, the Institutional Improvement Committee will review the overall reorganization and management plans and propose detailed improvements. |
Jeong-Hyung Lee Named Managing Director |
On June 2, Jeong-Hyung Lee was appointed as the managing director of the Busan Biennale. Lee, who first established his relationship with the biennale when he was working as the artistic director of the Busan Sculpture Project of the Busan Biennale 2008, showed his enthusiasm as he said, ¡°Although there isn¡¯t much time remaining until the opening of the Busan Biennale 2014, I will put my best efforts towards the successful preparation of the exhibition with a great responsibility.¡±
