About the sculpture –
Birdcloud

A sculptor, installation and performance artist, Konstantin Dimopoulos¡¯s artworks are grounded in sociological and humanist philosophies. His works respond to global socio-political and environmental issues. The works often reflect both the physical and psychological aspects of the human condition,

With its reference to birds as messengers, Birdcloud explores the narrative of collective memory, remembering and mass communications.

Social media and its ability to spread information through social sites such as Twitter and Facebook have become the new mass communication. Electronic rallies and demonstrations, self-appointed citizen journalists have taken political, social and environmental messages to the masses. No one is safe from knowledge.

The idea of twittering birds rising up and forming a mass evokes the flight of messages and ideas that together help to unite and mobilize various factions.

At the same time collective memory is made real at a keystroke. Old images, texts, objects, blog posts, tweets are accessible. Like our memories, the Birdcloud continues to hover above our everyday existence, the lines increasingly blurred between virtual and physical space.
