Flying Boats

Rumen Dimitrov, a Bulgarian born land art artist, is based in the Veliko Tarnovo city. Rumen has been invited to several prestigious symposiums, residencies and land art workshops all over the world, and has more than 15 solo exhibitions and several awards to his credit. A lover of nature Dimitrov chooses to work with natural materials. He displays an enormous talent in handling his materials, especially wood and stone to make large sized land art works.Conceptually his work revolves around the interaction of man with the natural elements. He is intrigued by the quality of strength that the stone possess.Through his large sized works he very often urges the viewer to feel the magnanimity of nature.

'Flying Boats'

Composition of three to five boats situated in Songdo Beach includes the Project 'Flying Boats' made with natural materials: bamboo and drift woods site specific environmental sculpture installation relative to the theme 'Songdo Beach'.Each boat is about four to five meters long and is situated at about three meters in the air standing on the cross bamboo sticks.The idea is to create sculptures that remind a Surrealistic dream, group of flying boats crossing Songdo Beach. The Boats are frozen in the air waiting for something, and because theyare in the air the illusion is that they fly, dreaming on the Beach like flying south birds (via pontica).
