The source of sound

If one could listen to the sounds of the internal body, one would perhaps hear something similar to the sounds of waves crashing, a giant¡¯s breath and heartbeat and the rush of blood circulating. These different sounds resonate out of steel pipes in ¡®The Source of Sound¡¯. The audience is presented with an unfamiliar landscape of sound. The work consists of remixed digital sounds amplified through a complex structure of pipes creating an audio-scape reminiscent of an abstract imagining of the low frequency sound our own bodies emit. These sounds stand in for the body, presenting an ephemeral image of our carpal selves, allowing us to consider life and the body as a growing, living organism.

The combined experience of the auditory and the visual elements as well as the psychological state, the instillation triggers combine to create a powerful experience. The artist will continuously experiment with the sound component, creating new possibilities of visualizing the abstract sounds of the body and exploring the sounds¡¯ possible meanings. Sim¡¯s ongoing experiment seeks to examine issues regarding identity, sustainability and life, while offering a new and fascinating experience to the audience, creating new ways to understand sound and the body.
