The Canoe in the Canoe : Drifting ashore-I

'The Canoe in the Canoe : Drifting ashore-I' and beyond <concept of work>

I have done various attempts about the relation between the environment and the sculpture in 1980's. For instance, I produced the series of the sculpture oflight and the shadow as a metaphor of time. On the other hand, I produced the series of the sculpture in the environment of the sound as a metaphor of the space. In 2003, I restarted the series of the sculpture that floated on water without the chance toannounce though I was trying in some measure in the latter half of 1970's. This time, the work that I produce is made from turning over the shape that floats on water and shape to collect water from the same stone.

Iwafune (Rock or Stone tank) is set up at the entrance of space symbolizing Japanese traditional culture, Clean water always springs up there. I thought about the possibility of a universal expression where they were included of a traditional ideal way and the way of making to sculpture by making the characteristic of the expression of the racial culture seen in relations of the stone and water a starting point referring to these traditional cultural heritages About 'The Canoe in the Canoe : Drifting ashore-I' of this work, it is a sculpture sublimating in a scene to resemble 'The Utsubo Canoe myth' with Sheen symbolizing the traditional culture mentioned above. There is logical contradiction with the tradition, but the meaning of 'utsubo' is 'emptiness' if I describe it daringly.'The Utsubo Canoe myth' is the next tradition.

It points at the ship which various strangers and noble lineage are carried with the Utsubo Canoe, and is cast ashore in the shore. The person in the boat is treated as a heterogeneous thing like various jetsam drifting to the shore. This expresses 'death and the thought of the reproduction' on the border. On the other hand, this expresses so-called 'thought of the solar reproduction'.In other words it seems that people reflected that they pick up a solar progeny on the Utsubo Canoe and drain it into the sea in a myth and has the myth structure that is common to the Pacific rim.The cultural exchange has a very deep relation with mind of various situation between Korea, Japan for several thousand years among other things. In such a meaning, I want to realize Sheen symbolizing culture by setting of 'The Canoe in the Canoe : Drifting ashore-I' in the beach of 'Songdo'.
