Symbiosis

Nature maintains its perfect system by respecting the law of symbiosis. However, humans are not satisfied with the blessing of the ability to think, using it only to satisfy their own selfish desires. Such behavior started with foraging of wild edibles in nature. Human's excessive foraging activity aimed at development has destroyed the system of natural symbiosis. As a part of nature, humans came to realize that they cannot survive in an environment where the system is destroyed. So they began to reflect on the symbiotic relationship, rather than the relentless destruction of the environment. Nature which offers the perfect conditions for life has the cycle of seasons. Experiencing the changes in seasons, the living things on earth come to respect a law of nature. And this becomes a natural movement and the power of life. This work represents the greatness and beauty of nature and the coexistence of nature and humans.

Trees are an entity consisting of a forest. They form a rain forest, giving birth to a wide variety of living organisms. Vitality of trees is the driving force behind the survival of the earth. This work is shaped like a tree, and real wood is used for the pole. Leaves of varied sizes are placed in layers to receive wind more efficiently. Another human invention utilizing wind, it works similarly to a windmill. The core material of this installation is wind. This work is completed when it works in harmony with the force of nature, which indicates that the artist believes that humans can have the sincerity only when becoming one with nature. The colors symbolize the four seasons of Songdo, with the color of bottom leaves representing spring. This work takes the form of a pine tree and is placed at the center of the sandy beach of Songdo, an island of pine trees. The pine tree is an evergreen which embodies an unchanging law of nature.
