Seesaw

The Chinese artist Lieyi Shen subverts the perception of the conventional seesaw, by placing a mirror in the middle of a seesaw through which the two people sitting on opposite ends can see each other. This mirror not only severs the vision of the viewers on the opposite sides of the seesaw, but also opens up to the reflection of the viewers themselves. Shen invites audience participation in this work by leading them to an original visual experience, and sheds light on the natural environment which is charged with as much joy and potential as in what is artificial.
