Folding Screen for Wind

In the East, the folding screen not only divides space as a type of screen, but also blocks drafts of wind from the outside. Duport¡¯s steel folding screens reference the Korean traditional folding screen, while the French word ¡®Paravent¡¯ demonstrates its relation to the wind and the site-specificity of the work. The various shapes of the openings on these screens allow the fabric attached on the sculpture to flutter like flags and kites, making perceptible the gentle breeze between land and ocean. For the artist, colors in the sculpture are an important element as he attempts to establish the relationship between painting and sculpture. In this work, the colors are revealed through the metallic structure itself and the fluttering cloths attached to the top.
