SeascapeBusan The
U.S.-born artist Joe Neil¡¯s biggest fascination lies on the two concepts of
city and space because, as Neil explains, the city is charged with complexity
and diversity while space provides us with the structure of life we need to
actually exist. For him, the towers in the city become the ultimate symbol of
the city in which they are situated. The sculptural work installed in Dadaepo
Beach — resembling two pyramids without vortexes connected to each other like a
rectangular hourglass — is meant to symbolize the shorelines surrounding the
city of Busan, Korea. Neil sees the tower as a micro universe because all
aspects of life, such as living, working and shopping take place in the tower. Symbolizing the air and birds of Dadaepo Beach situated
in proximity to urban life, Neil¡¯s multi - layered organic structure is open in
form and attempts to identify our life that exists between natural space and
urban space.
