Floride
By using key industrial
material in this age of mass production and consumption, PERBOS attempts to
break away from the biased convention that art always uses expensive and
exclusive material. The French artist PERBOS created an exotic atmosphere,
portraying palm trees from Florida using materials that are familiar to us.
PERBOS appropriated the form of palm trees commonly seen on T-shirts and
advertising boards, transforming his art works into what seems like delightful
toys. However, a critical outlook on society and environment lies beneath the
seemingly light and humorous work. The artist
collected and combined waste resources produced from raw petroleum material at
a demolition site and produced works in the form of palm trees, throwing a
critical outlook on the stance between human civilization and environment.
