35¡Æpeople, 2017, square steel beam, painted on FRP, mixed media, 800x650x700cm, Commission for the Sea Art Festival 2017
35¡Æpeople This work portrays
people on Dadaepo Beach, which is geographically located at 35
degrees latitude. In order to express the symbolism of place, various figures
exist in a space made up of a grid. The space here does not only refer to a
mere architectural meaning, but a space which projects the inner world of the
viewer. It captures the universal appearances of an individual he or she has
experienced or will experience as an unrealistic character, each of whom
represents frustration, joy, greed for job, etc. By embracing the various
aspects of everyday life, this work invites the audience to the pleasure of new
experiences of daily life which differ from their own.
