2014부산비엔날레의 열기가 채 식기 전, 올리비에 케플렝 전시감독이 고국 프랑스에서 다시 한 번 부산을 찾았습니다. 이번 방문은 2014부산비엔날레의 개최 결과와 향후 방향에 대한 이야기를 나누고, 나아가 부산과 지속적인 교류를 위하여 이루어졌습니다.

2015년 1월 26일부터 1월 30일까지 총 4박 5일 동안, 올리비에 케플렝은 부산의 곳곳에 발도장을 찍었습니다. 가장 먼저 2014부산비엔날레 자체평가의 시간을 가지고, 관객 수, 주요 성과 등 2014부산비엔날레의 결과에 대한 이야기를 나누었습니다. 또한 부산과 시근교의 문화적 공간을 방문하여 현재 부산이 마주하고 있는 미술과 문화의 현 주소와 발전 가능성을 확인했습니다. 감천문화마을, 자갈치, 남포동을 비롯하여, 원도심, 홍티아트센터, APEC나루공원 등을 거쳐가며 부산이 가진 특징과 지역성을 다시금 마주하였습니다.

2014부산비엔날레 전시 준비 당시에도 부산을 종횡무진 하던 올리비에 케플렝의 모습이 지금도 선한데요, 같은 부산이라도 전시 전과 후가 올리비에 케플렝에게 다른 느낌으로 다가오지 않았을까요? 실제로 이번에 부산에 머무르는 동안, 감탄사를 연발하며 부산의 매력에 다시 한 번 빠졌답니다. 

Even before the excitement of Busan Biennale 2014 has cooled down completely, Artistic Director Olivier Kaeppelin visited Busan again from France, his homeland. The recent trip was made to share stories on the result of opening up Busan Biennale 2014 or the future objectives and furthermore, for the continued exchange with Busan.

For a total of four nights and five days from January 26th to January 30th of this year, Olivier Kaeppelin left traces of his footsteps at various places of Busan. First of all, he had a self-evaluation hour of Busan Biennale 2014 and shared stories on the result of Busan Biennale 2014 such as number of spectators or major accomplishments. He also visited the cultural areas of Busan and its suburbs to identify the present state and the potentials of fine art and culture which Busan is currently faced with. He faced the distinctive features and regional characteristics of Busan once more as he passed through places like Gamcheon Culture Village, the old downtown area of Jagalchi Market and Nampo-dong, Hong-Ti Art Center or Apec Naru Park. While we can still vividly see him traveling through various places of Busan even when he was preparing for the Busan Biennale 2014, wouldn’t before the exhibition and after the exhibition approach him with different feelings although the place is same? During the time he was staying in Busan recently, he actually fell into the charm of Busan once again as he repeatedly let out exclamations of delight.

올리비에 케플렝은 이번 방문에서 작가와의 만남에 특히 심혈을 기울였습니다. 먼저 출품 작가에게 함께 준비한 것에 대한 고마움을 직접 만나서 표하고 지속적인 관계를 위한 훈훈한 시간을 가졌습니다. 또한 2014부산비엔날레 출품제안에도 불구하고 참여로 이어지지 못했던 지역작가들과의 만남을 통해서 그들의 작품 컨셉과 앞으로의 전시계획 등을 공유하며 지속적인 연락을 주고받을 것을 약속했습니다.

이번 방문을 계기로 올리비에 케플렝 전 전시감독과 지역 작가들의 연결고리가 좀 더 견고해지지 않았을까요?

Olivier Kaeppelin especially devoted his heart and soul on his encounters with the artists during his recent visit. First, he expressed his appreciation to the exhibiting artists for preparing together by meeting them in person and had a heartwarming hour for continuous relationship. Also by meeting the local artists who couldn’t get to participate despite the proposal to exhibit in Busan Biennale 2014, he promised to keep in touch as he shared their artwork concept or future exhibition plans. Wouldn’t the connection between former Exhibition Director Olivier Kaeppelin and local artists become a little stronger? 

전시는 끝이 났지만 전시감독과 부산비엔날레조직위원회와의 관계, 그리고 작가와 전시감독과의 관계 등 2014부산비엔날레가 남겨준 의미와 여러 연결고리는 여전히 서로 단단히 묶여있는 것 같습니다. 앞으로 있을 새로운 연결 고리들 또한 많은 기대가 됩니다.

Although the exhibition is over, it seems that the significance of Busan Biennale 2014 and various chains of connection such as the relationship between the Artistic Director and Busan Biennale Organizing Committee and the relationship between the artists and the Artistic Director are still firmly tied up with each other. I can’t wait to see the new chains of connection to be created in the future.
