water study 2, 2017, mixed technique, oil painting and video projection, 200x200cm, 4min, variable dimensions, Commission for the Sea Art Festival 2017
water study 2 Although Haudressy
didn¡¯t receive formal art education, she has been producing new images and
abstract spaces through painting, photography, and video. Like video
installation, the screen-like setting in her work is an abstract painting of
projected images. This work, titled Water
study 2, establishes a virtual space while evoking visual play, by
projecting a video projection in which water flows through a flat oil painting
divided into white and gray. The screen shows images of soft and quiet
infiltrations perceptible with time, such as sudden floods or smoke that
gradually vents out from light. The artist is interested in harmonizing things
that contradict each other, such as material and non-material, two-dimensional
and three-dimensional, and natural and artificial. Despite morphological
appearance and willingness toward a particular augmented reality by connecting
and combining layers of different expressions, the result of the work evokes an
aspect of human emotions as well as intelligence, and is perceived as something
meditative or contemplative.
