Buffalo Boy, 2017, steel, bamboo, fabric, lamp, 400x600x300cm, Commission for the Sea Art Festival 2017
Buffalo Boy The Thai artist BoonkerdSrisukha¡¯s work embodies a water
buffalo, a familiar subject from the artist¡¯s childhood. Exploring Srisukha¡¯s
childhood joys from his memories, the artist delivers such delight to the
audience through his memories of water buffalos, which closely influenced not
only his own life but that of many Thai farmers. While the robust water buffalo
presented in this exhibition is constructed of steel and bamboo and weighs
600kg, this water buffalo is dynamic in form, playing with excitement on the
expansive seashore as if it has really come in contact with water. The lamp
positioned within the form wrapped in cloth produces diverse lighting effects,
representing the dynamics and visual pleasure of the water buffalos.
